While living on an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, you can't ignore plastic trash covering the beaches and floating in the ocean. When you look into the effects you'll find it's extremely destructive, not only to wildlife but in the health of humans. Here's how:
Plastic contains Bisphenol A (BPA), a chemical produced in large quantities for use primarily in the production of polycarbonate plastics, like water bottles. When consumed, BPA acts like a synthetic estrogen in the body which causes major disruption. BPA has been known to increase the risk of cancer, be linked to miscarriages and birth defects in primates, as well as to behavioral problems in women, impotence in men, an increased risk of heart disease, and other health problems.
93% of people have BPA within their bodies. How? To put it simply - fish eat plastic, humans eat fish, humans consume BPA and can increase our risk of getting cancer.
On an island, more people are aware of this so less plastic products are used to prevent the horrible effects of plastic and BPA. On the mainland, awareness is much lower. Plastic bags, water bottles, cups, and forks - thousands of pounds of plastic being used with little regard for the environment and sustainability. BluCru was built to change this.
Drive our world towards sustainability by reducing plastic use and waste. BluCru's goal is to support businesses who have made an effort to switch towards sustainable business practices and make it easy for people to find them
